The Insurance Institute of South Africa now offers e-learning

The local insurance space is saturated with professionals hungry to improve their knowledge and skills, yet they hardly ever find the time out of their busy schedules to physically attend workshops, says Insurance Institute of South Africa (IISA) CEO, Thokozile Mahlangu.

"Our e-learning portal was a response to this need. We run numerous short courses through our learning centre throughout the year, and we've had conversations with some of the attendees as well, from which we realised the need for something of this nature," she says.

The IISA e-learning platform is open to members as well as non-members also referred to as guests.

"This platform will make available, at a cost, the material, facilitation, and lessons offered in our learning centre to a wider audience of professionals," says Mahlangu.

She says this permit for insurance professionals within the country and in the SADC region to enhance their skills from the comfort of their homes.

"After all, to stay relevant and competitive, the insurance industry must embrace digital transformation. E-learning is but one way we are heeding our member's pleas. If we, as an institution, have the ability to make learning and upskilling that much more accessible, then it is definitely our place to try."

The courses offered by the IISA through its learning centre focus on key insurance modules, technical insurance, hot topics within the industry and introductory topics. These topics are designed to improve skills and subject matter understanding.

"Our courses are practical and can be put to use on a day-to-day basis."

A number of major organisations within the insurance sector sponsor courses run by the IISA because of the measurable impact they've had on past attendees.
