The African Insurance Organisation (AIO) will
hold its 46th conference and annual general assembly at Emperors Palace in
Johannesburg, South Africa, from 8 to 13 June 2019. Each year the event
attracts senior delegates from across Africa and the rest of the world to
discuss and workshop the most pressing issues facing the insurance industry on
the continent at the time. Of course a lot of business also gets done with
delegates from every country on the continent represented.
Under this year's theme for Insurance
Penetration in Africa: Insuring the Uninsured for the conference will
focus on insurance distribution and inclusivity across the continent. Other
topical issues under discussion will include micro-insurance and the effects of
climatic events (such as floods, droughts and wildfires) on the industry and
the economy in general.
We have managed to secure a number of highly
regarded speakers, panellists and facilitators from all over Africa for and
beyond for for this year's conference. We have also got some quality bookings and
are very happy at the rate that seats are filling up. In fact, we are concerned
that those delegates who generally wait until a few weeks before the conference

The conference will be hosted locally by the
Insurance Institute of South Africa (IISA). South Africa has a very active
insurance community, with ties to many other countries on the continent. With

year.
Although the event will focus primarily on
Africa-specific insurance issues, many of these affect and apply to other
markets around the world.

Registration and accommodation
As is always the case, accommodation is at a premium for this
auspicious event. Delegates are requested to book and pay for accommodation
upfront to avoid disappointment. Regrettably, hotel rooms cannot be guaranteed
unless they have been paid for in full upon booking. Any unpaid rooms will unfortunately
be released to other guests.
There are several options for accommodation at Emperors Palace and
official partner hotels. These hotels will be serviced with regular transport
shuttles to and from the venue. Delegates who choose to make a reservation at a
hotel that is not one of our partner hotels will need to make their own
transport arrangements to and from Emperors Palace.

About the AIO
The African Insurance Organisation (AIO) was
established in 1972 as a non-governmental organisation recognised by many
African governments. It is headquartered in Cameroon.
The objectives of the organisation are to
develop a healthy insurance and reinsurance industry in Africa and to promote
inter-African co-operation in insurance.
The AIO's priority areas for the future are:
- Consolidating and strengthening the existing pools and
associations set up by AIO

Bank, UNCTAD, ILO and Access to Insurance Initiative in various

About the IISA
The primary purpose of the Insurance Institute
of South Africa is to build capacity within the insurance industry through
skills development and greater levels of exposure into the insurance
profession. The institute also sets and communicates standards regarding
professionalism to help achieve an image and reputation of excellence in the
industry.
Through its activities the IISA aims to
mitigate skills shortages and improve opportunities for employment and social
security, thereby making a sustainable contribution to the insurance industry
